The Indian School celebrates Yoga Day 2023
The Indian School Bahrain(ISB) celebrated Yoga Day on Wednesday, 21 June 2023. Principal VR Palaniswamy, Staff Representative Johnson K Devassy, Vice-Principals, Head Teachers and students attended the programme.
The United Nations has declared June 21 as ‘International Day of Yoga’ (IDY). It has been a worldwide celebration for the last eight years and has effectively facilitated the global dissemination of the significance of practising Yoga for overall health and well-being and enduring sustainable lifestyle. The theme for this year is ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.
More than 200 students had been practising yoga for more than three weeks for the final day programme and they performed extremely well on Yoga Day. ISB Physical Education Teacher R Chinnasamy conducted the yoga session and gave demonstrations on various yoga asanas. The entire PE department led by Physical Education HoD Saikat Sarkar coordinated the programme.
The theme emphasises the spirit of Yoga, which unites and takes everyone along. Emphasising the importance of Yoga, ISB Hon. Chairman Prince S Natarajan said in a message: “It serves as a platform to raise awareness about the numerous benefits of yoga and promote its holistic approach to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Yoga is not only beneficial for mental health problems but for overall well-being.”
"Yoga is a treasure that has been inherited and must now be imparted for the benefit and welfare of future generations to come", said ISB Hon. Secretary Saji Antony.
Principal VR Palaniswamy congratulated the students for their enthusiastic participation in the Yoga Day activities and appreciated the efforts of the PE department in coordinating the programme.
