Indian School Inaugurates ISB Botanical Patch on World Environment Day

'ISB Botanical Patch' on World Environment Day

The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) Riffa campus students joined hands in solidarity with the world to celebrate the World Environment Day on June 5, 2023 participating in eco-friendly activities. The theme under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution echoed the necessity and solutions to plastic pollution and restore our ecosystem.
The highlight of the day was the inauguration of the ‘ISB Botanical Patch’  in the campus garden by ISB  Executive Committee Member-Health and Environment Ajayakrishnan V.    Principal Pamela Xavier, students, head teachers, coordinators, teachers and staff attended. Ajayakrishnan   praised and encouraged the students’ group effort and their passion for caring and maintaining green spaces in the campus. He also appreciated the ‘best of the waste’ craft concepts done by the students, which are displayed in the school.
To celebrate the occasion, students brought vegetable seeds and homegrown tiny potted plants   as part of their EVS projects. Led by the Nature Club and  eco-monitors, students sowed the seeds and planted the saplings in the school garden.
The school’s Eco Ambassador  Aadya Bijin of grade III  stressed the importance of implementing the three R's – reduce, reuse and recycle. She also pointed out how the waste was segregated in the school into two recycle bins, green and blue, and how she and her eco warriors encourage their friends to become more responsible towards our planet.
Across the campus, in the classrooms, students observed ‘earth hour’ by switching off their classroom lights for a minute. They prepared badges, posters, drawings, check lists etc., and discussed ideas to become the agents of change.
The aim of the programme is to promote environment friendly activities among kids that will mold their behavior to develop compassion for nature. Additionally, the ecosystem can benefit from our little, daily, collective actions. ISB Hon.Chairman Prince S Natarajan and Hon.Secretary Saji Antony  and Principal Pamela Xavier congratulated the students for their enthusiastic participation and teachers for their combined effort in creating environmental awareness.
