Indian School Celebrates English Day

At the Indian School Bahrain (ISB), the English Day was celebrated on Thursday by organizing several activities to entertain and inform students about the history, culture and achievements associated with the English language. ISB Executive Committee Member Ajayakrishnan V inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Principal VR Palaniswamy, Staff Representative Johnson K Devassy, Vice-Principals, Head Teachers and Heads of Departments attended. EC Member Ajayakrishnan in his speech said ‘English language not only adds a touch of convenience to communication in general but has been a gateway to art in the form of literature of lots of writers around the globe. Every day is a celebration of this beautiful language by itself but any one day specially dedicated towards the language makes it even more special.’ The programme began with the national anthem of Bahrain and India, followed by the recitation of Holy Quran and the school prayer. Blessy Joselyn Chandra Bose (XI F) welcomed the gathering. Head of the Department GT Mani presented the English Day report. Joanna Jess Binu (XI F ) gave vote of thanks. The Department organized various activities in a phased manner for the students of all levels as part of the ‘English Day' celebrations. Students of grade IV and V presented action song and grade IX presented group song. Prize winning performances in Declamation (Grade 9) and Role Play (Grade 6) were greatly admired by the audience. Students of class 8 presented the court scene from William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice which captivated the audience. It was delightful to see students of grade XI and XII presenting fictional characters dressed up in various costumes, giving vent to their creativity. The Comedy of Errors, a skit by Grade XI, highlighted a lot of errors creeping into the grammar and vocabulary of a speaker. The first prize winning Short Film in the Med-Athlon was screened. ISB Hon.Chairman Prince S Natarajan,Hon.Secretary Saji Antony and Principal VR Palaniswamy congratulated the students on their exemplary show of creativity and skill and the teachers for their meticulous planning in organizing the English Day. Darshana Subramanian, Blessy Joselyn Chandra Bose, Devika Suresh, Esha Sudeep Nair, Joanna Jess Binu, and Jeswin Suju Varghese were the masters of ceremonies.
