Indian School Celebrates Arabic Language Day

As a part of the UNESCO celebrations marking the International Arabic Language Day, the Indian School Bahrain(ISB) organised a number of educational and cultural activities online for students. The celebrations were held under the Arabic Department headed by HoD Rukaiya Rahim. 'Arabic plays an important role in the Islamic faith because Arabic is the language of the Holy Quran. Muslims hold the Arabic language in very high esteem with most of their beliefs being inseparable from Arabic',she said. The activities included PowerPoint presentations, Arabic storytelling, poem recitation,essay writing video clips about the historical development of the Arabic language and defining countries speaking the Arabic language on the world map. As a part of its role to promote multilingualism and cultural diversity, UNESCO has chosen December 18 as the World Arabic Language Day, as it is the day on which the UN General Assembly approved the Arabic language as one of the UN’s six official languages in 1973. The rich diversity of Arabic Language, its strong bonds with various forms of cultural expressions and its significant role in connecting people and promoting dialogue were showcased as part of the celebrations , along with presentations on using Arabic language and calligraphy. ISB Hon. Chairman Prince S Natarajan, Hon.Secretary Saji Antony and Principal VR Palaniswamy congratulated the students on their active participation in the programme and the teachers for coordinating the celebrations.
