ISB Celebrates World Environment Day

Students in the Indian School Bahrain (ISB) celebrated World Environment Day 2021 by participating in activities like painting, essay writing and speech competitions through online medium while being safe within their home due to the Covid-19 lockdown. World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to mark the importance of nature and environment. ISB Principal VR Palaniswamy said the main aim of the celebrations was to encourage students’ awareness and action to protect our environment as well as to sensitize students about the significant issues related to environment and sustainable living. The students virtually engaged in meaningful activities to show their love and respect for the environment. Pertaining to this year’s theme of biodiversity, activities were held online to stimulate students’ interest in environmental causes and at the same time to hone their talent. The school received enthusiastic response to virtual activities held in connection with the day. The students were asked to send poems, articles, slogans, posters and photos of nurturing plants. ''The restoration of the ecosystem can only happen with measures including planting of trees, greening cities, cleaning up rivers and coasts, and rewilding gardens. The ongoing pandemic has reminded mankind of the harm we have caused to nature and how important it is to protect the environment'', said ISB Hon. Chairman Prince S Natarajan in a message. ''World Environment Day is a reminder that we must take good care of our surroundings. Let us make a promise to make our planet a greener and healthier place for us to live and enjoy life'',said ISB Hon. Secretary Saji Antony. ''We must join hands to save our beautiful planet as there is no other place in the universe so beautiful, so vibrant and so lively. Let us be more responsible'', said EC- Member Health and Environment Ajayakrishnan V. The theme for the World Environment Day 2021 is ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ with the slogan of ‘Reimagine, Recreate, Restore’. The Day will kickstart the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) to revive hectares of land from forests to farmlands, from top of the mountains to the depth of the sea.
