ISB Celebrates Tamil Day

The Indian School celebrated Tamil Day virtually on January 14, 2021. The programme was organised by the Department of Tamil marking Thai Pongal, a four-day festival which according to the Tamil calendar is usually celebrated from January 14 to January 17. Principal VR Palaniswamy, Vice-Principals Anand Nair, Satheesh G, Vinod S, Head Teachers, Heads of Departments, Coordinators, staff and students attended. The programme commenced with the national anthems followed by prayer by Vigneshwari of Grade X, then by the recital of Holy Quran by Nasreen of X. The welcome address was presented by Jeyasri Rajkumar of Grade X and the vote of thanks was given by Jesima Mohan of Grade X. The Masters of Ceremonies were Grade IX students Thadehayini, Logeshwari and Rashial Catharin.HoD Trévise Michel and Tamil Teacher Rajeswari Manikandan coordinated the programme. HoD -Commerce Dr. Rashid and Teacher Vaishali Devendran spoke about the beauty and the importance of Tamil language. Rajeswari Manikandan welcomed the gathering. Rishikesh Sriram of Grade VII presented Thamizh Thaai Vazhthu with instrumental play.Ishara Babu of Grade V presented instrumental play and silambam dance.Harini Manikandan of Grade VIII performed invocation dance.Keerthana Kannan of Grade IX and Shumvarthini Kannan of Grade VII performed folk dance. Niranjaana Ayyanaar of Grade IX and Pooja Ayyanar of Grade IV also performed folk dance. In his message ISB Hon.Chairman Prince S Natarajan said: 'Tamil is one of the few living classical languages and has an unbroken literary tradition of over two millennia.' ISB Hon. Secretary Saji Antony said: 'Tamil which is declared a classical language of India, has an independent tradition and possesses a considerable body of ancient literature.' Principal VR Palaniswamy appreciated the efforts of the ISB teachers in coordinating the programme and the students who actively participated in the celebration.
