ISB Students Engage in Virtual Activities on Environment Day

Though staying at home, the Indian School Bahrain (ISB) students celebrated World Environment Day with full zest on June 5. The students virtually engaged in meaningful activities to show their love and respect for the environment. Pertaining to this year’s theme of biodiversity, activities were held online to stimulate students’ interest in environmental causes and at the same time to hone their talent. The school received enthusiastic response to virtual activities held in connection with the day. The students were asked to send poems, articles slogans, posters and photos of nurturing plants. ‘We received around 500 creative works from the students spreading environmental awareness in spite of the Covid 19 lockdown, said Principal VR Palaniswamy and Riffa Campus Principal Pamela Xavier. ‘Every year ISB used to celebrate World Environment Day in a grand manner but this year due to Covid 19 restrictions, we celebrated the day virtually,’ they added. ‘The emergence of Covid-19 has underscored the fact that, when we destroy biodiversity, we destroy the system that supports human life. It was evident from the students’ participation that they are aware of the environment and the nature around them like never before’, said ISB Hon. Chairman Prince S Natarajan in a message. ‘World Environment Day is an occasion to educate the students on issues of concern, to mobilize resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity’, said ISB Hon.Secretary Saji Antony. ‘Let' us pledge to make a cleaner and greener environment. Let’s join hands to save our beautiful planet as there is no other place in the universe so beautiful and so lively. Let us be more responsible’, said EC- Member Health and Environment Ajayakrishnan V. The competitions added great excitement to the day and made the students understand the importance of preserving biodiversity. There were a huge number of entries for creative writing competitions for which the results will be announced later and the best works will be posted on ISB website. Apart from the contests, the teachers educated the students about apps students can use to explore flora and fauna. Teachers and students took special care to ensure that there is minimum wastage of resources while the activities were conducted.
