ISB celebrates Social Science Day

The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) celebrated Social Science Day on October 1, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with grand celebrations including an exhibition on the life of the Father of the Nation. The celebration was inaugurated by ISB Principal VR Palaniswamy in the presence of Vice-Principals and Head Teachers. “Gandhi was a visionary leader. He gave Indians a new spirit, a sense of self-respect and a feeling of pride in their civilization. He is a great statesman and a man of vision”, VR Palaniswamy said. The Principal garlanded the photo of Mahatma Gandhi in the Jashanmal auditorium. Head Teacher Jose Thomas spoke on the relevance of Gandhian ideals in the modern world. “Mahatma Gandhi's example of non-violent protest is still revered throughout the world today”, Jose Thomas said. The entire programme was conducted by the students. The welcome speech was given by Kerthanasri K (XK). A wonderful speech on the importance of celebrating Gandhi Jayanti was delivered by Aritro Ghosh (VH). Master of the ceremony was Suman Pitambar of XT. Gandhian ideal of Swachh Bharat was emphasized by Roshni Korlekar (XU). Patriotic song and dances were also staged. There was also a variety programme representing the cultural diversity and unity of various Indian states. The exhibition on the life of Gandhiji was arranged by the classes IV and V. Trophies and certificates were awarded to the winners. The whole-hearted participation of the students, sincere efforts of the teachers and the support of the management made this event a grand success. The Indian School is a CBSE affiliated school located in Bahrain. It was founded in the year 1950. The Indian School, Bahrain has around 12,000 students and is one of the largest co-ed schools in the Gulf.
