2000 Parents Attend ISB Mega Medical Camp

In a first of its kind, The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) organised a free medical camp for parents and students on International Labour Day. Around 2000 parents and their family members attended the Mega Medical Camp which was held at the ISB Isa Town campus from 8am to 1pm on Wednesday. ISB Hon. Chairman Prince S Natarajan inaugurated the medical camp held keeping in mind the recent rise in stress and life-style related health issues in the expat community. Hon. Secretary Saji Antony, Hon.Asst Secretary Premalatha NS, EC Members Adv. Binu Mannil Varughese, Mohammad Khursheed Alam, Rajesh MN, Ajayakrishnan V, Saji George, Deepak Gopalakrishnan, Mohammed Nayaz Ullah, Principal VR Palaniswami, Riffa Campus Principal Pamela Xavier, Staff Representative Johnson Devassy and Vice Principals attended the ceremony. The mega medical camp was the first major event held connection with the year-long ISB @ 70 celebrations commemorating the anniversary of the Indian School Bahrain. The programme was arranged based on the UNESCO theme ‘Good Health and Well-being’. Ten hospitals and one medial lab participated in the medical camp. Doctors from Aster Medical Centre, Bahrain Medical Centre, Bahrain Specialist Hospital, Shifa Al Jazeera Medical Centre, Al Amal Hospital, American Mission Hospital, Middle East Hospital, KIMS Medical Centre, International Medical Centre and Bahrain Medical Laboratory attended the camp. Dr Babu Ramachandran from American Mission Hospital gave an audio visual presentation on wellness and health tips which was followed by question and answer session. Treesa Saji gave a demonstration on Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) , an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions with artificial ventilation. Dietician Abigail Carolin gave a presentation on healthy food habits. Other presentations were given by Dr Lamees( oral hygiene) and Dr Natasha( gynaecology). Free training in Zumba Exercise was offered for parents. Specialist Doctors in Cardiology, Gynaecology, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Dentistry and Stress Management will give free consultations during the camp. Free medical tests included BMI, ECG, Glucose, Kidney and Lipids (Cholesterol). Special offers for ISB parents were given by the hospitals. Although the camp was mainly organised for ISB parents, students and siblings , a number of community members also availed the free medical check-ups. ISB Chairman Prince S Natarajan said: ‘The ISB mega medical camp provided general check-up and basic treatment to help the parents be aware of their family health status. The big turnout was a clear indication of the urgent need for medical care in the expat diaspora. We are thankful to the parents, community leaders and medical practitioners for their support and cooperation in making this mega medical camp a grand success.’ The Indian School Kingdom of Bahrain
